Because I See

In life we are reminded of things. People. Places we’ve been. Emotions we’ve felt. Achievements.
Often, pictures tell these stories.
A search back can reveal a lot about us. Our life. Our lives.
Yet, to replay one’s take on this or that, therein lies the question. Why do we do that if we are to live in the now?
Be now. Be present. Heard by many. Spoken in tongue by today’s thought leaders.
Along with stopping the irresistible temptations to compare ourselves to others. Constantly. Comparing achievements.
Where does it get us? If we contemplate who we are too much, we come to realise like the sand on a beach, it’s imprints will wash away with each high tide. We are all different. Each with our own uniqueness.
If I were to get up now and walk away, would I feel this way?
Intuition guides me. Does it you?
I set the timer. I am writing.

Today is different to tomorrow. How we feel now, isn’t going to be how we feel in the days to come.
Achievements to each of us may or may not charter a course. A goal, perhaps. Although a magnitude earthquake could change everything. Like the throttle on a train. If it fails to take the turn and keeps on going.
Illustrations in our minds of the characters we play in today’s spirit shell – etch our path to eternity.
There’s a novel in me I know. But how do I start it?
By writing, something, anything.
So here I go.
Because, I am so grateful - I can see.

Getting Hired

Haven’t had a full-time, long term job since 2009. Been doing what I can here and there. Snippets of contracts and manual labour.
Uganda Wishes.
Been loving the evenings though when I can sit down and do what I really enjoy.
Writing this blog.
Whatever comes to mind. Something I heard, saw or did that inspired me to tangle words together. In turn, with the purpose to inspire you in some way.
Can’t imagine a better way to live then by doing what you love.
Like to know how I can make a living at it.
The question has come up often enough. I’ve even asked MISS604.
Turns out most blogs direct traffic to a web site. The source of the income. Whether it be services or books.
Dreaming out loud. Maybe I can publish a book like Seth Godin in an inspirational way that will garner me more readers. Bite the bullet and do the Google AdSense and see what comes…
Maybe set up an e-commerce side to my web site (the domain name is there) and put my poetry and photographs together and sell them.
I often receive favourable feedback from readers. Mostly through Facebook and Twitter.
Today I updated my LinkedIn profile. The scattered past. Full of this and that.
Thought of a song my dad used to sing out loud.
“What’s it all about, Alfie?”
Getting hired.
What is it all about?

2011 - Setting the Stage

When it comes to setting goals what do you think the hardest part is for most people?
In a recent conversation by email, a friend wrote something to me to the effect of, “Well, you don’t strike me as someone who lets obstacles get in your way…”
My immediate reply was, “The only obstacles are in your mind.”
Take fear. Nine out of ten times fear strikes you from within. Sure there may be external forces at play too, but generally speaking - fear is created in your mind.

For 2011 I’m setting some lofty goals:

  • Live healthily so I can help others. Health is wealth.
  • Exercise longer, more frequently and encourage others to as well.
  • Practice gratitude - daily.
  • Follow my heart, no matter what. Dad used to say, “Do what you like, but like what you do.”
  • Think/dream big - outside the box. Live it.
  • Nourish the soul with creativity and encourage others to as well.
  • Practice self-love and self-care often. Teach others.
  • Be open to receiving. Love and be loved.
  • Take daily doses of inspiration and share it.
  • Make a difference through words and pictures - A Fresh Thinker.
  • Activate People and Purpose - worldwide.
  • Donate blood.
  • Explore the unknowns.
  • Learn more.
  • Blog sustainably.
  • Work with OWN.
  • Activate a TED Talk.
  • Review goals often.
  • Smile, so others will too.
  • Be. Be me. The best that I can be.

Over to you now... hint: remove the fear by creating a clear and believable path in your mind. You CAN do anything.

Good luck and remember to be patient.

Love,
Me

Why I Blog

I wear my heart on my sleeve. I speak my mind. I’ve been known to show the Poker Face. I can say out loud what some people may think but are too afraid to. I dare to be different.
Writing is something I’ve always been passionate about. Many years ago I wrote for community papers and a business magazine. I loved it. Because of a grave family member’s illness I gave it up and in doing so lost my parking spot so to speak.
Years later I moved into television. Combining words, visuals and sound. Super fun. Loved it a lot. It was heart wrenching loosing that kind of job to lay-offs.
Some more years later I find myself here. Wanting to write. Hanging out with Social Media. The gist of journalism still in my blood. It never leaves. Soon I’ll be combining more visual and audio to my blog site. In the meantime, if you’re still reading I want to share with you a comment a woman made to me this morning which made my soul shine.
From June 26 – July 3 I did the BC Bike Race Challenge course. I blogged about it everyday after my ride. Had a blast doing it and writing about it. This lady told me she read my blog everyday and felt that what I wrote was inspiring and made anyone feel they could go about setting goals and achieving them like I did.
The smile on my face is still shining. For me, writing or blogging is telling a story in some way I hope that will inspire others to share, do or dare. Today, that’s why I blog.
Thank you for reading.

Top Five Reasons to Head Bash

It never hurts to meet with other like-minded folks. I call it head bashing. You’re bashing your brains together – right?!
I’m learning so much by taking an on-line blogging course with Raincoaster Media http://raincoastermedia.com/ . Tuesday’s is our night. I was tempted to bail as I needed a workout, instead I cooked dinner while we Skyped our conference call.
Even though it is well after my bedtime now I’m hooked - more importantly inspired!
If you’re a writer and you’ve been taking the helm solo, here’s my top five reasons why head bashing is really good for you:

1. You’ll find more reasons to think and write outside the box… creativity increased!
2. You’ll find more tangents to go out on and more crossroads to cross!
3. You’ll get feedback and add-ons!
4. You’ll find more confidence to carry on and on and on!
5. You’ll like what you’re doing even more as you’ve got others to support you along the way.

We’re half way through our ten-week course. I’m learning to think every bit multi-media. Even though I’m behind on my homework, I’m facing my future of blogging with excitement. I know more, I am more! Thanks Raincoaster!
