Shining Souls

Always there is hope.
Which is easy to say.
Had an old boyfriend who played that fiddle on me the morning after we’d had sex.
“I have hope!” he would declare.
Maybe I wasn’t half bad. Or maybe he just wasn’t getting it enough. Who knows where his brain was at.
As it turned out, we didn’t last too long anyway.
Three full moons ago I met a stranger, who became a friend.
I love where I am at in my life. It’s easy for me to slither around. I’ve learned how to accept what is. To be in the now. To think good thoughts. To not allow friction to raise my heckles. To stay calm. Feet firmly planted.
Art fills my heart with joy. So does creative thinking. Music.
Same with old souls
There’s always a great connection.
In finding this new friend, surprisingly I found more out about myself.
Yes, I suppose life is school. Except you never really graduate.
In his eyes I saw a bright, bright future full of the zest for life and for living. But sadly, it came with a very dark cloud over his shoulder.
Alcoholism.
It’s been almost seven years since I got rid of mine. I could see where he was at. I accepted everything about him. Didn't think any less.
Fun is always had when we are together. So is wonderful conversation, sometimes even dancing.
Hints of a crossroads for him prompted me to provide some resources. Subtlety I gave what I could, what I knew.
But at a distance.
Every once in a while we would connect again. When it was right for him.
Traces of hope started to emerge. I fed more. Again, I stood back.
This was something I didn't realize about myself. Usually I am a take the bull by the horns type of person. An action taker, when I see something that needs to be done. I do it.
At whatever cost.
Dad always used to say, "Patience is a virtue, a virtue which I have none."
Daily I find myself consumed with hope for him. He is in my every thought. That he will find the peace he needs to free himself. To reach out for the help he needs.
To save his shining soul.

Life Cycles – The Movie

The venue was plush. I wasn’t expecting too much when I sat down in the seat for two with a holder for my coffee cup. But I was relaxed.
Once the grandiose HD Life Cycles movie began I had to resort to blindly writing my notes. I couldn’t dare take my eyes off the screen.
The narrator’s words immediately clung to my soul. Married with the high definition artistic portrayals of the manufacturing of a bicycle to start things off - I was completely captivated.
It was unimaginable for me that I could go to a bike movie – a bazillion of which I’ve seen on my son’s computer over the years – and be brought to groundswell of tears. How so?
There was a mingling of intensity shed on the story of life, sidelined with the great outdoors and of course a bicycle.
Human power. Capable of greater good.
The iconic pictures your mind dances with when the voice pitches in with “…mystery of what lay around the bend…” had me rattled. Honestly I got a rush.
“The bicycle our noblest of inventions…” okay.
I felt the rhythm. The visuals, the eye candy, the words, the music.
It all tugged at my heart strings. Truly a film with spirit.
Also purpose, flow, joy, interaction and instinct. It delivers balance. A bike and life. Intertwined with the sound of the chainsaw or the ching of a pedal to the medal. Take your pick. There’s the wheels of change. Construction, destruction then creation.
I loved the lines; “Bicycles are powered by the human motor,” and then the “Forces that aim to take it all away.”
What did I take away I think to myself as I amble out of the theatre with my son who claimed, “Awesome.”
It’s what I did today. I saw it, I felt it and I lived it.
Like the movie said - Life Cycles. It never ends.

N.B. Can hardly wait to own my own copy.

Heart Talk Mind Speak

The mind controls the body.
The soul takes care of the heart.
How is the heart activated?
With feelings.
How are feelings controlled?
By the mind?
As easy as a light switch can be turned on, we too can turn it off.
Take the emotions. Affection. Awareness. Instincts. Intuition.
Physical sensations.
Then there is the spirit.
What about it?
When the heart talks, does the mind speak?

Two is You

“Feel your heart. Let your heart feel mine.”
It went something like that.
I replied with, “Fear.”
He understood.
I had met a beautiful soul.
We’d boda-boda’d. Eaten dinner. Now we were dancing. I was the only mzungu in the place. Three dance floors. Less space as the night went on. Ratio of men to women – ten to one.
We got a crowd. The mzungu shaking it up with the six foot fiver Lugandan man.
There was Ugandan reggae, rap and pop. Some electro.
It was so much fun.
The guard with the gun at the entrance said we could dance till 6 a.m. I was delighted.
Besides a couple water breaks and one game of billiards, we lasted until 2 a.m.
My African man is Muslim. If wealth exists, so he tells me – he can have four wives. I ask him how many so far? He says two.
“One in Uganda and two is you.”
I laugh and squeeze my wrap around his waste.
A pal before I departed Canada predicted I would meet my future husband in Uganda. This rested in the back of my mind.
It’s been almost a week since I left. I mull over what I did do on my African voyage. My six weeks in Uganda. Uganda Wishes.
Many have asked will I return?
At first I thought no. But now my heart sings yes. There’s the northeast to explore. More documentation post election of people and their wishes. Mt. Elgon to climb.
And of course I stray back to my soul, with the African heart and smile to think.
Two is you.

A Half Moon Tonight

Won’t be long and I’ll be peering up to the sky in an African night. I ponder this in awe. I’ll be continents away from where I am today.
The world is so big. Our mother earth so round. Cultures are diverse, while so many people cross the lands.
What is spoken here, may not be there. What we may laugh at now, they may sneer at tomorrow.
I’m sure they sing and dance more then we do here. To celebrate life.
I’m so curious to know, what makes them grow.  Their spirits, their souls, as all is unknown.
Their challenges are more and real to this day. Then what we may face on any given day.
So I look up at the moon, and one thing I know – we both see the same thing… a half moon tonight.
It’s my time to go and see and explore. To document the hopes and the wishes from those afar.
Please visit Support Uganda Wishes for your opportunity to share.
Thank you.

Love and Trust

Greed and gold. They go together.
The rain pours down. Emptiness shatters a heart.
Longitudinal forces are at play here. A tempest in a teapot you say? Not so.
How can you love if you don’t trust?
Someday one may look back and laugh. Yet today’s version of emotional nagging rages anger and hatred. Pain.
I speak for a soul whose daily events triggered unaccountable thoughts. Persistent actions wouldn’t hasten a right. Rather two wrongs.
Without moral judgement she did bad and so did he. Leaving yet one sore soul.
Without trust there can be no love.

Soul Speaking

Intuition tells you something. If you listen. While harbouring guilt over maybe what is right, often we overlook it.
Sometimes goodness comes our way and feels too good to be true. Yet there’s no stepping out of bounds.
I imagine shackles of truthfulness in actions. But too many times needless emotional baggage staggers the path ahead.
Tempted by fate, I still jump in with two feet. Yet the carpet moves. Backwards. Yielding the familiar pain and sorrow.
If my soul were to talk what would it say? If my brain would listen to my intuition would it be my soul speaking?

Soul Sisters

Friendships last forever. When family calls, nothing else matters. I vouch for my souls sisters the same way. I know they are there for me when I need them. And vise-versa.
Doesn’t matter how long it’s been since we’ve seen each other. We pick up where we left off. Talk about life, happiness, the world and whatever’s going on inside our souls.
When I yap about what I’m feeling or some crazy idea I’m thinking - they listen. When I work a job with one and get all nit picky, I get support.
If I’m sad and lonely, I’ll get dealt a dose of laughter.
When there’s a need, we work together to fill it. Words don’t always have to be spoken. We can talk with our eyes and our hands. At times, intuitively we connect with each other’s thoughts by our actions.
I can step out of line, and be plucked back in.
Our soul sisters are our angels. Guiding us to the sunshine and helping to direct us onto the right path for life.
